You might recall we despatched youngest son Will and his girlfriend Jess to the Belton House Food Fair last year – well, they did so well they’re being sent again next weekend to man the Heart of Gold stall!
The National Trust property will be holding its annual food fair on Sunday August 7, from 10.30am to 5.30pm. There will be 20 stalls in the stableyard, giving it a traditional market ‘feel’.
Organised in conjunction with Tastes of Lincolnshire, it’s a fantastic opportunity to sample (and buy) local produce and enjoy a number of cookery demonstrations which will be held throughout the day.
We’ll be sampling Heart of Gold, both as a dip and made into delicious bread and cakes, so do come along and say hello – and help Will & Jess beat their last year’s sales too!

It’s not hard to find, being well signposted from all around Grantham, but here’s a link to the map to make it even easier!

We were delighted to be approached by a complete fan of Heart of Gold (she’s now buying the 5L bottles, such is her devotion to our oil!) who is convinced daily consumption of locally-produced rapeseed oil is helping her cope with her hay fever, which is normally exacerbated by oilseed rape! Obviously, we haven’t got medical proof of this, but it’s still a real thrill to hear of someone who both loves our rapeseed oil and also considers it a staple of her daily diet! So much so, that she’s making bread with it, and her delicious recipe is below – it tastes heavenly and its texture is really moreish!
Just thought, after my recent post about Heart of Gold at Borough Market, you might like to see a pic of the oil in situ on the East Midlands stand!
The market was really busy over the three days, with visitor numbers building, as might be expected, up to the Saturday. It has such a buzz to it, and is absolutely foodie heaven – the hardest part is deciding what NOT to eat!
We hope this will be a regular slot, and are eagerly awaiting feedback from East Midlands Food & Drink iNet to see how feasible that would be. Watch this space!
Great news – and just a bit of advance notice too! Heart of Gold has been invited to participate in the pilot of an East Midlands showcase at London’s prestigious Borough Market. The Food and Drink iNet is working with the market organisers to plan a stall that will feature the best of what the East Midlands has to offer, including products that are under-represented at the market.
There’ll be around 20 companies on a shared stall, in a deli-type format, and this will be taking place between Thursday 21 and Saturday 23 July. It’s a real opportunity to reach a new audience and test a different market, affording us invaluable access to the foodies of London and the South-East, so we are hugely excited at the prospect. If you’re in the area, come along: otherwise, I’ll be reporting back in due course so watch this space!
Finally dried out after a somewhat wet finish to Open Farm Sunday, which took place last weekend on 12 June. Open Farm Sunday is not just a great family day out, it’s a fantastic opportunity to meet the people who produce the food we eat and who care for the countryside around us.
We had been invited to go along by Sutton Estates to Hall Farm at Stanton Le Vale (near Market Rasen), so off we trundled, complete with our bag of tricks, which included an oilseed rape plant in a pot, a big poster showing a rape field in full bloom, a banana bread baked using Heart of Gold (see recipe posted on 12 June), lots of leaflets on how to use rapeseed oil and…oh yes, just a few bottles to sell too!
